Drafting a pattern

I started drafting a master blouse pattern the other day while waiting to get to town to buy interfacing for the jumper. I used a book called Dressmaking: a manual for schools and colleges, that I found on the HEARTH site. I used their measuring to take proper measurements of myself with the help of Tobbe. I finished it late last night and it seems to be a pretty good pattern. I am going to compare it to my romantic blouse pattern to see if I can use it to make it the correct size for me. In these books I found on the HEARTH web site I found lots of things I can use with this base.

This morning I broke my plexiglass sewing machine extention I am very upset. We are trying to glue it together again but I am not sure that will work. I am sure there is no chance of replacing it since they aren't cheap. Pretty heartbroken.

I am still considering what to do with my jumper. If I continue with it I need to go to town and buy interfacing for the skirt fronts. I did it in such a way that I can still put that on there without having to remove the skirt. I have the buttons already so soon as I decide if I am keeping and get the interfacing I can finish. Tobbe says he likes it more than he did when it was just yardage. Guess that is saying something. Zen said though that it would make me look larger so it has made me pause a bit more to think about it.

I got the skirt on the bodice but I am not sure if there is too much fabric or not. I am feeling a bit blah so not really in the mood to think about it now.

I redid the seams on the bodice and that gave me a bit more room but I think it will be fine anyway. I cut the skirt pieces decided to make them 45 inches long so with hem and stuff it will be about 40 to 42 inches. I have enough fabric to do 4 panels but not sure I need that much since the fabric is 60 inches wide. I will sew the 3 panels together and then decide if I want the last one. I have been considering making gores but I guess we will see.

Romantic Jumper 3

Finished the bodice of the jumper just a few minutes ago. I might have to take the sides out a bit but I think it will look ok on me.

I will try putting on the skirt tomorrow.

Romantic Jumper part 2

Yesterday I cut out the new toile and today I sewed it up. I am much happier with it today, on my dress form it looks a little long but I still am adjusting her to be more my size.

My dressform has much higher breasts than I do so the darts look different but on me it looked fine. Time to remove the stitches and then cut it out in the fabric.

Romantic Jumper

Now that I am done with the blouse I figured I should go back to working on the jumper too. I got this pattern from Sense and Sensibility this is designed after Molly Gibson's jumper in Wives and Daughters a mini series from BBC. Here is a small picture showing Molly in her jumper.

I will be using the fabric shown in the last post with the green blouse. I had done a toile which was nearly ok just needs to be longer and actually had to take it in a few places. I remembered I had this really cute blouse that Melinda gave me years ago and it has been sitting in my closet forever. I tried it on and it fits, I probably never wore it because it is a bit short but with this jumper it will be fine. I am cutting it out again in some scraps to check the fit again. Hopefully this toile will be able to be used to line it.

Romantic Blouse

I finished this blouse tonight I used the romantic blouse pattern from Sense and Sensibility. I liked how it turned out and I think it will suit me. I had to make it larger and longer. I am going to make the jumper from the same web site now with some fabric that I have had since I lived in San Diego. Tobbe thinks the fabric for the jumper is too old lady. I think the colours go well together and I can make another blouse later in white with long sleeves and lace.

Sewing, Sewing and more Sewing

I have been busy sewing lately. I tend to get this way and get a bit one tracked with my hobbies. Since we have moved rooms around and I have a good work surface for my machine I have been busy sewing anything and everything. I did easter dresses for Shaila, Cecilia and Amanda though only Shaila wore hers. They turned out really adorable I was quite pleased with them. I then started again on my corset and regency dress. I am not so pleased with it but it is coming along. I then got side tracked and started on my romantic era blouse and jumper when the patterns came in the mail. I made one blouse but it was too small which was really quite upsetting but I will save it and hopefully be able to use it later when I have my surgery. I then altered the pattern and made another out of a light green sheet I bought at Konsum for 25 kronor. Surprisedly enough the fabric was quite nice. I bought buttons for it yesterday and I will finish the tucks and try to start on the buttonholes today.

I just feel that fabric and notions are so expensive here that it gets me down quite a bit. It is tough with me not having my own money and having to borrow money from Tobbe all the time and then having to justify it makes it even more difficult. I have been transferring money lately for my patterns and some fabric but not telling him. This makes me feel quite bad but I wouldn't get them if I had to tell him every time. The fabric I found from a sari online on ebay I hope to use to make my wedding dress. It is very lovely, sort of a lilac/pink colour with a nice pattern to it. I had been looking for something white but this was much better. It is a poly silk and I am not sure what that means but I am guessing that it is either part silk part poly or a silk-like poly. I hope that it is just silk/poly. I have been planning to use the regency pattern for my dress but so far I can't seem to make it look flattering for me so I guess I will see what I do.

I hope to be writing more in this in the future. I never really liked writing but today this seemed to be a good idea so I will try to keep it up.
