Christmas Rug

Finally finished one of the Christmas rugs that I started working on last year. I still have the fringe on the shorter one to finish now but they both should be done before first advent.

I have rolled it up and put it away so I can put both down at the same time. I think they look very nice in the hall with the new floor. It is a bit numbing on the eyes though :P we will get use to it though.

Australian Bonnet Project part 2

Well blogger was being difficult so I decided to start another post for explaining what I am doing for this project. I am planning on buying some nice linen fabric probably in an off white. I am also working on a swedish lace with hearts called Stupvända Hjärtan to trim it with. I also said that I would make a few plain bonnets for people that would like to be involved but can't sew. The bonnet was pretty simple so it isn't a big deal to do a few extras in a plain cotton. Here is a picture of the lace and pattern.

First is the sample I did to make sure the thread was the right size. I didn't have the directions at that point so I was trying to figure out how it was suppose to work. I then found that the directions were in a swedish book I have so it has gone very smoothly. I am planning on doing about 22 inches of this lace. I have chosen some of my best bobbins to make this. The thread I chose to use is 100/3 Brok cotton with size 12 Finca perle cotton both in offwhite.

Australian Bonnet Project

I have been working on some lace for the Roses of the Heart exibition that will be held in March 2008 on International Woman's Day. Here is an excerpt from the project.
Christina Henri plans to create four installations to be exhibited on International Women's Day. Each installation will be similar and will be placed at sites relevant to the convict women’s departure from the United Kingdom and arrival in Australia. For the bonnets installation possible sites are being explored and at present it is anticipated Yard 1 at Cascades Female Factory, South Hobart will be the Tasmanian site. A site in Parramatta is being investigated and sites in London and Dublin will be pursued. International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March and therefore this date seemed to be an appropriate time to reflect on the lives of the many women who have been shrouded in ‘a veil of amnesia’ for far too long.

Latest Projects

I keep forgetting to update this blog, I ended up getting sick the end of September with bronchitis and just totally forgot. I have been working on plenty lately though. I finished a lace project that had been sitting on the pillow for years. I am so glad to be done with that one.

I still need to find some hankerchief linen to mount it on. It is from a Finnish designer called Eeva-Liisa Kortelahti. I am not sure which book it came from since I got the pattern from someone else. I think it might come from Lets Make Bobbin Lace but I can't be sure. Anyway I started that in 95 or so can't remember it had been on that pillow so long and it bored me so much. It was funny though when I went to look at how much I had left there was less than a half a repeat so I just stuck to it and finished. I had set it up with magic threads to help to join it but they had been flopping around for so long they were just a tangled mess so ended up cutting them off and joining it the old fashioned way which was annoying to say the least. But all in all I am pleased with it and happy I didn't just put it away again.
